Carter Reservation

About the Carter Reservation

An Air Force major from Apache Junction, Arizona, bought 7.2 acres bordering the head of Bournes Pond when he was stationed at Otis Air Force Base in the 1960s. Major Carter “had always dreamed of spending some time on his land beside this empty river on Cape Cod” but never had the chance, his wife said after he died in 1967. She had only visited the property once and was willing to part with it. Because she didn’t think she should give it away, she sold it to the town for $3,000, below the market rate.

The Carter Reservation is reached by Penny Royal Lane, which is off Sao Paulo Drive, from East Falmouth Highway. Sao Paulo Drive is east of the traffic lights at Davisville Road.
