Conboy Parcel

About the Conboy Parcel

The 300 Committee acquired 5.78 acres of woods on the Falmouth-Mashpee town line in 2015. Purchased from Michael Conboy of Otis, MA, this vacant land parcel is home to sensitive wetland and plant communities. Shortly after T3C's acquisition, the land was conveyed to the US Fish and Wildlife Service for inclusion in the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. This collaboration with a federal agency was a ground-breaking partnership.

The parcel is accessed from North Ockway Road in Waquoit and is adjacent to a parcel protected by the Orenda Wildlife Land Trust. Because of its wetlands and nearly 1,100 feet of frontage along Red Brook, which flows into Hamblin Pond and Little River, eventually emptying into Waquoit Bay, it has high conservation value and proved worthy of protection in perpetuity. The rolling upland is wooded with pitch pine, oak and scrubby undergrowth. The easterly boundary with Red Brook yields occasional wetland views.
