Dorothea Allen Parcel

About the Dorothea Allen Parcel

Cranberry bogs are apt to catch the attention of motorists on Carriage Shop Road in East Falmouth, rather than the stretch of woods beyond the bogs. The woods, however, offer visitors a quiet walk on a trail network that seems far removed from the nearby road traffic.

The town purchased the 71-acre property from Dorothea Allen in 2004, the same year the town purchased Falmouth Country Club. Most of the parcel is conservation land, and 14 acres on the west side were designated for municipal use.

A utility easement extends along the western boundary and along the back of the property. To the east are 130 acres of woods, including the Hayway Road parcel, bought by the town in 1977 and 1978 for well site protection.

Although parking is limited, trails lead into the woods from the utility easement off Carriage Shop Road; another, newer loop trail enters the woods across from the bogs on Carriage Shop Road.
