Sandwich Road Preserve

When the Falmouth Land Bank Committee recommended the town buy 6.68 acres on Sandwich Road in 2002, members hoped they would be able to add to it and eventually create a larger tract of conservation land in this heavily developed part of town. That didn’t happen, and the small parcel is an isolated protected parcel in busy Teaticket.

With some TLC and manual labor donated by generous volunteers, the roadside gravel parking area was restored as a natural habitat. The 300 Committee spearheaded a project to replant the bare area with native trees and shrubs, with the goal to create a small park area with a semi-circular dirt driveway, a memorial bench, and a path leading through cedar, white pine, viburnum, spirea and clethra to the edge of the woods.

Several organizations and businesses contributed to this restoration project. Dale Tree Movers and Angela Rose Gardens and Landscapes donated their services with the planting and design. Work began in 2007 and continues with yearly stewardship projects.
