About the Wheeler Forest
Thirty acres of woods, meadows and trails, with a vantage point overlooking Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound are owned and managed by the Buzzards Bay Coalition as conservation land. This property was donated by the Joan Tompkins Wheeler family of Woods Hole and is the largest undeveloped parcel in the Quissett Harbor Watershed.
The Wheeler Forest Preserve sits just outside the Woods Hole village near the Woods Hole Golf Club and lies between Quissett Avenue and Woods Hole Road across from the entrance to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's Quissett Campus. In 2018 the family gifted the property to the environmental nonprofit, which in turn worked with The 300 Committee, holder of the conservation restriction.
Public parking is not available and access by the public is not encouraged.
