About Allietta Field
Address: 754 Nathan Ellis Hwy, East Falmouth, MA 02536
This town softball field on Route 151 is complete with dugouts, lights and an announcer/maintenance booth. Plenty of parking is available. The entrance is on the east side of Hamilton Tree & Landscape (formerly the Nickelodeon Theater), across from Ranch Road.
The old movie theater and the ball field are surrounded on three sides by the state-owned Frances Crane Wildlife Management Area. The ball field’s seven acres were part of the 212-acre Coonamessett Reservation purchased by the town in 1986 as part of the first major omnibus open space package.
A dedicated teacher and coach in the Falmouth schools, George “Joe” Allietta was an outstanding athlete who was an All-Star player at Bourne High School and who played for the Cape League and Northern New England Baseball League. His career in Falmouth began in 1953 when he succeeded Guv Fuller as coach of the Clipper baseball team. He also managed the Falmouth All-Stars, predecessor of the Commodores, for a season. Joe Allietta died in 1969.
