About Gus Canty Recreation Center and Guv Fuller Field

ADDRESS: 790 Main St, Falmouth, MA 02540

Falmouth's Gus Canty Recreation Center has indoor basketball courts, a teen room, several function spaces, and an outdoor playground. The rec department hosts various sports and other activities through the year.

Guv Fuller Field is located behind the rec center. The field was dedicated in 1952 to renowned coach and Athletic Director, Elmer E. (Guv) Fuller, who served in the Falmouth schools from 1926-1952. He got the nickname Guv thanks to Governor Alvan T. Fuller, the 52nd Governor of Massachusetts from 1925-1929.

Guv Fuller grew up in Falmouth.  He graduated in 1907 from Lawrence High School, where he was the football team's quarterback. In 1926, he was hired by the school system as the Physical Education Director. He taught gym classes in every school and coached every sports team in the school system.

Since 1964, the field has been the home of the Falmouth Commodores Baseball team which plays in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

The field was constructed in the late 1930's by the Work Projects Administration. It is maintained by the Falmouth Parks Department.
