About Little Island
Donations of conservation restrictions to protect land began to appear in Falmouth in the late 1970s. One of the earlier conservation restrictions preserves 12.8 acres at the end of Little Island Road in West Falmouth.
The spit of land is on Buzzards Bay at the entrance to West Falmouth Harbor. The restriction allows public access “on foot for purposes of fishing, hiking, and nature study from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.” There is no public parking.
The trustees of the Little Island Trust, which owns the land, were well-known residents of West Falmouth—Jacob Fassett, Charles Jones and Sloat Hodgson. They donated the CR to the town in 1975.
