The Kelly Woodland comprises 3 acres that were jointly acquired by The 300 Committee and the Buzzards Bay Coalition in 2016 through a combined sale and donation from the Kelly Family. (Much of this is wetland.) This small but important parcel links the 28-acre Flume Pond parcel (aka The Shirley Barton Peterson and John Peterson Conservation Area) with Beebe Woods, creating a broad swath of more than 500 protected acres. The Kelly Woodland is also significant because it serves as an important wildlife corridor, connecting a wide variety of habitats including Flume Pond, a coastal freshwater pond, vernal pools, oak and pine forest and rugged upland. This lovely parcel provides public access to Beebe Woods from the west, with a small parking area and the Mizell/Hoskins trailhead off Sippewissett Road. The creation of the trail and the installation of the conservation land sign and kiosk were a Scout project led by Falmouth High School student Troy Otter, who worked to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Troy and friends also built a small bridge to cross a wet area in the Flume Pond parcel. Visitors to Kelly can explore Flume Pond by walking across Sippewissett Road to the wooded loop trail south of the pond.
