About the Coonamessett River/Great Pond Estuary
Drivers on East Falmouth Highway are not likely to notice that the Coonamessett River flows just east of the entrance to the FalmouthPort development opposite Oxbow Road. A narrow stream at that point, the river flows into the upper end of Great Pond, hidden by trees and underbrush.
Right at that location, on the south side of the bridge that crosses the river, are 4.5 acres of conservation land. They were purchased from the Correllus Trust by the town in 1999 and were among the first parcels acquired with the new Land Bank.
