About Little Pond Conservation Area
Address: 89 Spring Bars Rd, East Falmouth, MA 02536
Ten acres of conservation land on Little Pond were carved out of an original 21-acre parcel that was slated for a 168-unit housing development. Neighbors challenged the developer and ultimately the project was abandoned. The entire parcel was purchased by the Town in 2010 to combine open space and affordable housing. For the conservation piece, The 300 Committee's efforts secured a $500,000 state grant, ensuring that the sensitive ecosystem on the pond and a rare Atlantic white cedar swamp are protected in perpetuity.
A new workforce housing project, Little Pond Place, got underway in summer 2019 and aims to provide 40 affordable units. After many years, the Conservation Commission and The 300 Committee are moving forward with plans to improve the conservation area for public use with walking paths, parking, invasive species removal and habitat restoration.
Access to the parcel is from Spring Bars Road.
